The Arthritis Foundation raises money through local events such as the Jingle Bell Run and Arthritis Walk for research to find a cure for arthritis. Our advocacy efforts encourage government leaders to support the Arthritis Prevention Control and Cure Act for improved healthcare, increased funding and address the need for pediatric rheumatologists.

A free downloadable audio-book service is available from the library’s web site. In addition, there is free access to Heritage Quest online from home and off-site computers. The video collection includes current and classic feature films, non-fiction and documentaries, in VHS and DVD formats. ElderSource of Greater Indianapolis   City: Indianapolis   General Description: ElderSource is a network of coordinated services provided to older adults in the greater Indianapolis area. With its partner agencies, ElderSource offers a range of services to support and assist older adults and their families as they adapt to the aging process. In June, the Albert and Sara Reuben ElderSource program celebrated a year of providing services through Indianapolis’ only Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC). And since July 3, all elderly and resettlement services are being handled by ElderSource.

Hamilton County Public Library - Sheridan   City: Sheridan   General Description: The library was built in 1912 with matching funds from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. (Andrew Carnegie is pictured at right). All the original furnishings are still in use. There is approximately 4,000 square feet of space on two levels, with the children's library on the lower level. There are over 35,000 volumes on the shelves.

In 1923, 50 neighborhood residents formed the West Park Social Service Association and pursued the new construction of a Community Center on railroad property that was targeted to become a coal dump.

Heritage Place of Indianapolis   City: Indianapolis   General Description: Heritage Place provides offers 6 programs for older adults. 1) CAREGIVER SUPPORT SERVICES - We offer private consultations, consumer materials, referrals and general information for caregivers of older adults. 2) CARE MANAGEMENT - Trained staff assess the needs of older adults and provide case management and referrals. 3) FRIENDLY VISITING - Trained volunteers and staff visit homebound elderly to support their well-being. 4) HOME & YARD WORK - We provide light house cleaning and seasonal yard work services. 5) SENIOR CENTER - Open Monday through Friday, we offer a wide variety of interesting classes, educational programs, health services and social events. 6) TRANSPORTATION - Through volunteers and staff, we offer limited transportation to medical appointments, one-day trips, grocery shopping and Senior Center classes.

Morgan County Public Library - Brooklyn   City: Brooklyn   General Description: The Morgan County Public Library began in 1906, when Andrew Carnegie donated $12,500 for the construction of the Martinsville Public Library. While his donation was sufficient to cover the expenses of a brick building to house the library, Martinsville city officials determined that limestone should be used in place of brick for the "Artesian City." After selling bonds, city officials were able to generate the additional $2,400 required to construct the building with Bedford limestone.

Day-trips, language classes, rehearsals for our performing choral group and handbell choir round out the weekly schedule.
