From its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into the state’s most well-respected and leading advocacy association for people with developmental disabilities and their families.
 
Area Youth Ministry, Inc.   City: Indianapolis   General Description: Incorporated in 1970, Area Youth Ministry (AYM) is a Christian outreach ministry to inner-city adolescents in Indianapolis, Indiana. Focusing on the development of the whole person— spiritual, physical, emotional, and intellectual—AYM reaches out to fill voids. A Drop-In Center (located across from Tech High School) provides a safe haven where youth ages 13-18 can hang out after school to get help with homework, relax, play games, or talk to someone about problems they are having. Through several small single-gender groups around the city, AYM helps teens build healthy self-esteem, recognize their God-given potential, and feel accepted and loved. Biblical principles are taught to instruct these young people about how to live Godly, responsible lives. In addition, AYM serves "at-risk" junior and senior high students in Tech, Arlington, Howe, Washington Community, and Manual Indianapolis Public School districts through Young Champions, a 25-week course teaching life skills and values. AYM's services are provided to more than 1,500 adolescent youth each year without regard for their race, gender, disability, religion, national origin, or ancestry. AYM employs 7 full-time staff members, involves volunteers in many different capacities, and operates with a 2007 annual budget of $409,615.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana provides a one-to-one mentoring program to youth ages 8-18. Becoming a mentor is easy, it's fun, and it makes a big difference. There are two kinds of mentoring programs: Community-based Mentoring Program requires the match to meet 2-4 times per month as desired, at any local community location or event. Site-based Mentoring Program allows the match to meet once a week for an hour at the school of the youth. We ask that the match meets throughout the entire school year.

Brooke's Place for Grieving People   City: Indianapolis   General Description: Brooke's Place for Grieving Young People is a not-for-profit agency. We provide peer support groups for young people and college age (age 3-20+) who have experienced the death of a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, sibling, friend or loved one. Program Night peer support groups meet twice a month, on Thursday evenings, for 75 minutes at St. Luke's United Methodist Church or on Wednesday evenings at Butler University.

Cares for Kids main mission is to assist the orphaned children overseas, who typically suffer from emotional, physical, mental, and/or financial needs. Nearly all orphanages have very limited available resources to operate and receive little help from their government. Without assistance, it is nearly impossible for these communities to afford the equipment, facilities, materials, and monetary support needed to administer an orphanage. That is where Cares for Kids steps in.
 
Central Indiana Youth for Christ   City: Indianapolis   General Description: Following WWII, large group rallies became extremely popular in the U.S. as a primary means of evangelism. As the hunger for God's Word and requests for help with the rallies grew, so did one man's vision for expanding the effort into a national movement. In 1944, on a fishing trip off of the coast of Florida, Torrey Johnson, a Chicago pastor, shared his vision of a national movement with Billy Graham, asking him to become the organization's first evangelist and employee. Beginning almost simultaneously in dozens of cities, Youth for Christ quickly became a national movement, with Torrey Johnson as the first president and Billy Graham as its first full-time employee. Indianapolis was the first place that the organization was first called Youth for Christ.

Some of our residents are here to escape domestic abuse, occasionally a family comes to our door after losing everything they own in a fire, others have simply been caught in a series of unfortunate events that have caused them to lose their homes and their dignity. Hamilton County Public Library - Sheridan   City: Sheridan   General Description: The library was built in 1912 with matching funds from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. (Andrew Carnegie is pictured at right). All the original furnishings are still in use. There is approximately 4,000 square feet of space on two levels, with the children's library on the lower level. There are over 35,000 volumes on the shelves.
 
Hamilton County Public Library - Westfield   City: Westfield   General Description: For the past seven years, all public libraries in the nation have been evaluated and ranked in Hennen's American Public Library Ratings. This year, our library ranked as 10th overall out of 239 Indiana public libraries, and received a score of 97.7% out of 100%.
 
Happy Hollow Children's Camp   City: Indianapolis   General Description: Happy Hollow Children’s Camp, Inc. a private not-for-profit organization accredited by the American Camp Association and part of the United Way of Central Indiana, provides educational and outdoor residential camping programs which are designed to increase the understanding of the environment for children, ages 7-17 years. Children from financially disadvantaged families from Indianapolis and surrounding counties, and children with certain special health needs from throughout Indiana participate in a safe, supportive and supervised learning environment at Happy Hollow Camp in Nashville, Indiana.

Healthy Familes of Hamilton County, Inc.   City: Noblesville   General Description: Healthy Families of Hamilton County, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides home-visiting support services for new and expecting parents. Parents receive information on child development, parenting skill and are provided linkage to community resources. These services are provided at no cost to families, and are always voluntary. This local program is part of the statewide multi-site system of Healthy Families Indiana and is affiliated and credentialed by Healthy Families America.

Our recently completed capital expansion has provided excellent facilities including a dining hall, swimming pool, seven cabins, an arts and crafts/nature center, many outpost campsites, ample trails, picnic sites, open fields and a campfire circle.

Morgan County Public Library - Brooklyn   City: Brooklyn   General Description: The Morgan County Public Library began in 1906, when Andrew Carnegie donated $12,500 for the construction of the Martinsville Public Library. While his donation was sufficient to cover the expenses of a brick building to house the library, Martinsville city officials determined that limestone should be used in place of brick for the "Artesian City." After selling bonds, city officials were able to generate the additional $2,400 required to construct the building with Bedford limestone.
